Elevators

In our company, there are three elevators. One of them always returns to ground floor automatically if not used. Makes sense, most people will enter here. If nobody enters immediately, the door closes.

If someone wants to use the elevator, he has to press the call button. This triggers that the elevator waiting on the ground floor automatically goes to the highest floor without opening the door while elevators from other floors are called to the ground floor. Maybe the elevator waiting on ground floor is frightened by the sudden press of the button? Anyway... maybe it helps you to understand the meaning of the word "ceature".

Introduction - Why "Design from China"

I live in China. In Xi'an to be exact. In my first months here, I came across many things that didn't really work as I expected them from my experience. Not because they were broken (this also happens to many things "Made in China" after a while, but the advantage of China is that you probably know someone who knows someone who can fix it). No, these things are just designed in a way they could not work. Like the house from the jokes, for which the bricklayers didn't leave a space for the door. Or a car with square wheels.

At first, I became angry at those things. Later a little amused. Sometimes it's hard even to think about the features they forget or the small things they come up with in order to make the user's life hard. I started telling others, but they couldn't believe - or they were also amused. Therefore, I decided to start this blog. Whenever I come across something which has a China-Feature (aka "Ceature"), I will describe it here. And I will also include some recollections of the past.

Last but not least: I really enjoy living here, and I do not want to offend China or the Chinese. It's not that in other countries they wouldn't come up with things to make life difficult (CAPS LOCK ISN'T A CHINESE INVENTION; IS IT?). It's just that I have the impression that here there's more of this...
